From family-friendly rides along the Mary Valley Rail Trail to scenic country road loops, forest adventures and gravel rides through the Valley’s spectacular national parks and state forests, there’s a cycling experience for every level of rider.
Around surrounding forests are numerous gravel roads and forestry tracks that are popular with mountain bikes and gravel bikes. Expect rolling hills, creek crossings, rainforest sections and beautiful lake views. These rides are generally better suited to intermediate riders.
The forestry roads throughout Imbil State Forest provide excellent riding for adventure cyclists. While they aren’t purpose-built MTB trails, they offer long gravel loops through native forest with very little traffic. Many riders combine these with the roads to Borumba Dam.

The once used Mary Valley Railway line between Imbil and Brooloo has been restored to a trail which passes through State Forestry and Bellbird Habitat.
An easy 4.5km one-way return trail between Imbil and Brooloo, this is a shared trail for walkers, cyclists, dog walkers, horse riders. It is an easily accessible and popular trail for locals and visitors.
The song of the bellbirds keeps you company as you take in the scenery on your trail.
Once you arrive in Imbil it is very easy to find the Mary Valley Rail Trail – it’s in the middle of town. You simply turn at the Railway Hotel into William Street and follow the avenue of trees on the right to the end. Take a sharp right and you arrive at the Rail Trail’s car park.
Head through the entry gate and onto the trail which takes you to the next township of Brooloo some 4.5km away. You return by the same route.
This is a shared Rail Trail accessible to horse riders, cyclists, and walkers. When using rail trails, respect the rights of other users, the natural and cultural environment, and the local communities that care for trail.
​Dogs are allowed on the Mary Valley Rail Trail and must be kept on-leash and under control at all times. Please clean up after your dog and leave the Rail Trail pleasant for other visitors.
