The Mary Valley region is located on the traditional Country of the Kabi Kabi (also spelled Gubbi Gubbi) people, with parts of the wider surrounding river system and region also associated with the Jinibara, Wakka Wakka, and Butchulla peoples.
Welcome to Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi country. The Mary Valley has a long, rich and vibrant history. We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we are about to share our stories, the Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi people. We also acknowledge the other traditional owners of the land in our region, the Butchulla and Wakka Wakka People. We pay our respect to their elders; past, present and emerging.
Jinibara Country is located in South East Queensland, Australia. It stretches from Mount Nebo and the D’Aguilar Range in the south up to Mapleton and the Blackall Range, and west toward Kilcoy, covering parts of the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions.
The traditional country of the Wakka Wakka (or Waka Waka) people is located in inland southeast Queensland, primarily encompassing the South Burnett and North Burnett regions.
The traditional country of the Butchulla (also spelled Batjala or Badtjala) people is located on the Fraser Coast region of Queensland, including the Mary River, flowing from Conondale Range to Hervey Bay.
