At the intersection of Link Road and Mary Valley Road, turn towards Amamoor. If you time your visit well, you can watch the historic Mary Valley Rattler arrive in town while tasting delicious coffee and snacks at the Village Green Cafe. One of the highlights is seeing the locomotive turned around for its return journey to Gympie.
We suggest taking a right where the Link Rd intersects with Mary Valley Road and head towards Amamoor. Here you will find the most amazing little coffee shops and… if you time it right you can watch the Mary Valley Rattler as it arrives in town and does the amazing ‘turn around’ before heading back to Gympie.
Leaving Amamoor, take the back road to Kandanga where you will find a great country pub meal at Kandanga Hotel or if you are staying overnight, visit the Kandanga Country Club for an evening meal or one of the regular specialty dining events.
From Amamoor, follow the scenic back road to Kandanga, passing picturesque farms and orchards along the way. In town, enjoy a country lunch at the Kandanga Hotel or visit the Kandanga Country Club for lunch, dinner or one of its popular specialty dining events. If you decide to stay overnight, the Country Club also offers an RV park.
Imbil is just a 10-minute drive from Kandanga and offers another tempting selection of country fare. Enjoy a classic pub meal at the Imbil Railway Hotel or dine in the delightful garden courtyard of the Wild Vine Café. Be sure to visit the Imbil Town & Country Bakery for its famous vanilla slice, freshly baked treats and tasty meat pies.
If you are travelling through on a Sunday, allow time to explore the Imbil Markets, where you will find a wonderful variety of food stalls and fresh local produce.
Continue your scenic food journey south, travelling over the range to Kenilworth, approximately 20 minutes away. There are plenty of local flavours to discover, including the well-known range from Kenilworth Dairies and the famous doughnut challenge at Kenilworth Country Bakery. McGinn’s of Kenilworth remains a long-time favourite, while the Kenilworth Hotel combines traditional country-pub charm with hearty food and its own brewery.
If you visit during May, don’t miss GourMay Mary Valley – a month-long festival celebrating the region’s wonderful local food, producers and dining experiences. With events held across the valley throughout the month, it is the perfect time to stay a little longer and discover more of the region’s flavours.
